Netherton Sports U15s still have some way to go to fully compete with the very best U15 teams around. In their first outing of this new season, they visited South Kirkby Colls for a friendly, in which they did manage to at least score. They conceded the first after Harem Ali was pounced upon when trying to work the ball out from in front of goal. However a couple of minutes later, Sports levelled when Anthony Njie lobbed a well placed ball into the host's box for Matt Summersgil to score when contesting the ball with the goalkeeper. From there, although Sports contested every ball, Kirkby scored three further first half goals to make it 4 - 1 by the break.
Early in the second, Kirkby added another but from there Sports managed to hold their superior hosts, until late in the game when they tired, it allowed Kirkby more time on the ball and so they added four further late goals. Goalkeeper George Harrison and goal scorer Matt Summersgil shared Topps Tiles Man of The Match Award ahead of hard working Liam McClean and Jordan Howarth. Despite this result, Sports can comfort themselves in the knowledge that they are almost guaranteed not to meet with type of high class opposition throughout the rest of this season and as it was their first game of the season they can only get fitter game upon game.
