Netherton Sports U15s played a very competitive pre-season friendly game against near neighbours Ossett Albion.  Albion had the better of things during the first half and took the lead midway through, following a defensive mistake.  Albion then knocked in a second, to leave the score line reading 0 – 2 by the break.

Following the halftime briefing Sports played at a higher tempo and the deficit was narrowed when James Woodings powered a brilliant header home.  Netherton continued to press the visitors’ goal and then from the edge of the box, Connor Varley slotted a neat finish past an exposed keeper.  However Sports’ keeper Anthony Njie who had an excellent game overall, unfortunately caught Albion’s onrushing striker just inside the box to concede a late converted winning penalty, just as Sports were looking capable of winning the game.

The Tops Tiles Man of the Match award was shared by goalkeeper Njie and mid-fielder Harem Ali just ahead of attacker Scott Brown and defender Lee Cawley.  Netherton Sports U15s are still recruiting for the forthcoming season and anyone interested in joining should contact John McClean on 01924-382540 or 07904-045470 or visit www.nethertonsports.co.uk for further information.
